Download: My sensory comforts

We can use sensory comforts to help us cope with the ups and downs of life.

When we’re anxious and jittery, we can use sensory comforts to ground ourselves. If we’re having a panic attack, sensory comforts can help us to re-connect with the world around us. If we’re feeling low, we can use comforting sensory bits and bobs to soothe ourselves.

Thinking about each of our senses one at a time can help us to think about how we can use each of them to comfort ourselves. We might find that some of our senses help to comfort us more than others. Over time, we can learn which sensory comforts help us most.

What do people say about our work?

“Oh Blurt, I’d forgotten how sensitively written all your articles are. It seems like everyone is churning out clickbait about self-care at the moment, but your articles are the only truly helpful ones for me. Attention to detail on word choice (e.g using “us” instead of “you” as its more inclusive and less commanding, and shows you understand) and phrasing (I’m sure “simpler times” was a deliberate choice over “happier times”) shows your writers truly empathise and care deeply about their audience. This is why I continue to direct anyone struggling with their mental health to you as a resource. Thank you for all you do. Xx”

“Thank you so much for all the awesome things you share!!! This is a real beauty”

“Having been off work for months with the Stress anxiety depression etc I am on the up and going back to work on Monday. I have found your newsletters and website very helpful and will continue to enjoy them. I hope you Blurters continue your crusade.Take care and thanks again.”

It’s important that these resources are as accessible as possible to as many as possible. They’re used in therapy sessions, within schools, in libraries, in NHS teams and within inpatient services. Thousands of people say that they’re incredibly helpful.

If you’re in a place where you’re able to, we’d appreciate any contribution whatsoever for using this (and any other) resource to help support the work we do to helping those affected by depression, including our free-to-schools education programme: The Blurt Peer Project.

Your donations mean we can continue our important work which not only changes lives, it saves them too – THANK YOU!
